One of a class of 25 built by Henschel at Kassel in 1942 (works no.26 692), this snowplough was allocated the DRG running number 730 602 (later 706 007). It was allocated to Knittelfeld in Austria on 13th September 1942 and worked on the Erzbergbahn. On 21st December 1945, it was transferred to Mürzzuschlag, where it regularly worked on the Semmering Pass in the winter months.
It received overhauls in 1952 (Linz) and 1978, and was withdrawn in 1984. It went directly to the Strasshof museum as a part of the National Collection and appeared in the exhibition for the 1987 celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Austrian railways.
Henschel's sub-contracted the machinery of the snowplough to Ateliers Metallurgiques in Nivelles (Belgium) and the boiler to NV Maschinenfabrik Du Croo & Brauns in Amsterdam. It could cope with snow depths of 1.5 metres and operated at between 120 and 160 rpm.Photograph by Robert Day
