A 'Krimml sausage' coach
1st July 2002
These distinctive dome-ended coaches were built for this line, starting in 1940. They were unique (when built), in that they did not have bogies, but instead had a four-wheel fixed wheelbase, with two radial axles at each end. This was supposed to improve the coach's ride over sharp curves. Why this was done is a mystery, as there are no sharp curves on the Pinzgau line. In any case, their running qualities were questionable at best, and the coaches were soon converted to run with conventional bogies. Later batches of these coaches were built with bogies from the outset.
Some of the coaches were, in time, transferred to the Ybbstal and Waldviertel systems.
